Situated at the westernmost adge of Lake Vaya – the largest natural lake in Bulgaria.
The reserve include 70 hectares of reed beds and over 15 ponds with different size and dept. It’s a territory with no hinting, no traffic, no disturbance.
Lake Vaya is right of the way of ‘’Via Pontica’’, the second largest bird migrating root in Europe! The lake is shallow and reach in fish. Although the freshwater fish are not highly valued by humans due to their muddy taste, they are essential for the millions of migrating birds that pass through the area. From July until the end of September, just the number of White pelicans feeding on the lake range between 5000 to 20 000 !.

There are no physical borders between Lake Vaya and the „Via Pontica Photo Reserve‘‘ – they have similar landscape and wildlife. Perhaps the easiest way to describe this remarkable habitat and its biodiversity is to call it a “Mini Danube Delta.”

The answer is - good conditions floating hide photography. Over 15 different basins with flat stable bottom and layer of mud just about 10-20cm. And the most important is – controlled water level between 40 and 120cm. All this details guarantee safe and successful photography.
